The San Jose Mercury News is reporting the Seattle Seahawks star running back Marshawn Lynch was arrested in his hometown of Oakland on suspicion of driving under the influence. Lynch was taken to the San Rita jail where he was cited and released.
This is not the first brush with the law for Lynch. In 2007, he was accused of sexual assault by his former girlfriend. Prosecutors declined to press charges. In 2008, Lynch was investigated for a hit and run which eventually plead down to a single count of failure to exercise due care to avoid striking a pedestrian, a traffic violation. In 2009, three days after his pro-bowl appearance, Lynch and two companions were sitting in a running 2006 Mercedes-Benz when police approached; after smelling marijuana, the police searched the car and discovered a loaded gun that was determined to belong to Lynch.
Lynch rushed for 1,204 yards and 12 touchdowns last season and embodied the attitude head coach Pete Carroll wanted the rest of his roster to emulate.
In March, the Pro-Bowler signed a new four-year contract with the Seahawks worth a reported $31 million.
