Defensive end/tackle hybrid Jason Jones, one of Seattle’s big off season pick ups, was placed on season ending injury reserve today with a knee issue.
Acquired by coach Pete Carroll and GM John Schneider from the Tennessee Titans, Jones was brought in to increase the speed of Carroll’s pass rush defense. In his time with the Seahawks, the linebacker amassed three sacks, 11 tackles, four tipped passes and even recovered a fumble from a sack.
The pressure and speed Jones brings to the middle will be sorely missed. In his place, Hebron Fangupo was signed off the practice squad while wide receiver Bryan Walters, a local player from Kirkland, was signed to the practice roster.
Chris Clemons, KJ Wright, Bobby Wanger, and Bruce Irvin have reeked havoc all over opposing offenses. The loss of Jones will be a tough one, especially with the San Francisco 49ers coming into town on a flexed Sunday night game.
“We’re just not the same without Jason in there,” said Carroll.
