It looks like some Seattle fans had their rally caps on last night as the mariners went into the bottom of the ninth down 2-0 to the Detroit Tigers.
With Detroit closer, Octavio Dotel on the mound, the bottom of the ninth inning quickly gave M’s fans hope as Brendan Ryan and Ichiro both walked. Dotel’s struggle to find the strike zone continued with two wild pitches during Jesus Monero’s at bat, allowing Ichiro to advance and Ryan to score. Montero then capitalized on the situation with a deep line drive, scoring Ichiro as the tying run.
Dotel was the replaced by Duane Below who was unable to prevent pinch runner Munenori Kawasaki advancing to third off of Kyle Seager’s sacrifice bunt. John Jaso is credited with the game winning RBI as he hit the sac fly allowing Kawasaki to cross the plate.
-M’s starter Blake Beaven fell victim to a line drive from Miguel Cabrera, which hit him square in the elbow. He was forced to leave the game early and is questionable for his next start.
-This game could have marked Detroit as the 9th club Octavio Dotel has recorded saves for but instead makes Detroit the 8th club he has recorded a blown save with.
-Doug Fister was unable to capitalize on his first return to Seattle after being traded from the M’s last July even though he completed 7 innings in only 73 pitches with just four hits.
